Warwick Farm is one of the four thoroughbred racecourses in Sydney. The track is slightly outside the metropolitan area, offering a more country feel than some of the other racecourses in the area. Warwick Farm plays host to a number of group races throughout the year, one of which is the Warwick Stakes, which is a Group Two race. No records have been set at the track so far although some of the better times include 1200m run at 1:08:600; 1600m in 1986 at 1:34:800 and 2400m by a horse called Grey Affair in 1977 at 2:26:700.
Nature Of the Course
Warwick farm is a rather tight course with a triangular shape. The circumference is smaller than other Sydney courses being only 1937 meters long. The triangular shape means that the corners are not wide and sweeping, which is tougher to run than a more open course. Horses that jump well and lead early tend to do better on Warwick Farm, as overtaking on the tight course is not an easy feat.
Racing At Warwick farm
Warwick Farm is predominantly a midweek-racing venue and is known for its picnic type atmosphere. The midweek races are not as glamorous as races at other tracks, which means a more relaxed betting atmosphere.
Warwick farm has two main important races during the year. The first is the Warwick stakes which is a Group Two race and the second is the Surround Stakes, which is also a Group Two race. The Warwick Stakes was held at Randwick Racecourse for 2014 to 2016 although looks set to come back to Warwick Farm. The Warwick Stakes attracts horses of the caliber of Winx and Hartnell, both of whom competed in 2016. Betting for the Warwick Stakes is very popular both at the actual track on race day and online via various sites. Due to the national nature of the race, and the caliber of horses it attracts there are many options spread over many different sites.
The surround Stakes has been switched between Warwick Farm and Randwick Racecourse over a number of years, as have a number of other races. The race is named after the only three year old filly to win the Cox Plate, Surround. The Surround Stakes is run over 1400 meters under set weight conditions. It also attracts a high calibre of horse, which means a full field and good betting options. Again betting can be done either at the track or via an Internet based sites.
Chipping Norton Stakes
The 2017 Chipping Norton Stakes, which is a group one race, is due to be held at Warwick Farm. This race was last won by Winx and is one of the biggest horse racing betting tips events on the Australian Racing Calendar. As the race is held half way through the racing season, punters have been able to analyse horses form in previous races, which will give them a good idea of who may do well in this race. The track is tighter than Randwick resulting in no horse winning from a barrier outside of eight in the last 20 years.
